Former Tobacco farmer turns to muscadines and suppernongs
Whitsett, NC - John Ward of Ward Farms once plowed over acres and acres of tobacco but years ago that all changed. He abandoned the cash crop for a new one, grapes.
In addition to the muscadine and scuppernong grapes they also grow soybeans, corn, wheat, and hay. The grapes are turned into juices, ciders, jams, jellies, and spreads.
The products they bottle and jar can be found at Whole Foods in Greensboro,NC as well as many antique and consignment shops throughout the state.
The farm is also home to laying hens and beef cattle.
